I'm trying to get the Anime Show back into full swing this year. It admittedly dropped off as work deadlines got crazy at the end of 2015. I'm still kicking myself for not properly wrapping up the year with best and worst lists, I had so much to talk about!
Keeping up with anime is similar to game journalism: There are thousands of us budding anime reviewers out there, new content is coming out all the time and it takes great speed to build an audience. Anime is a pulp genre: Heavy on formula, low on critical respect and wildly varying in terms of quality. I do the Anime Show because I love the art style and every now and then I find a movie or a series that blows my mind.
I'm really happy with this review. It's odd how many people are praising this movie. I can see what they like, but the overall package left me thoroughly underwhelmed. Not that I've lost any love for the work of Hosada-San.
